February 27

All four of my preschool friends were here today! Yay! We celebrated Garrett's 4th birthday. He brought cupcakes, teddy grahams, AND string cheese. If you were wondering why your child wasn't hungry for his/her lunch.......now you know!

We counted all the way to 27 on our calendar today.....whew! We always sing the alphabet and find the first letter of our names. Then we play "missing letter". All of the alphabet letters are on the board and each child gets to take one away while the rest of us close our eyes. Then we sing "Oh, what letter is missing? Oh, what letter is missing? Oh, what letter is missing? I wonder what it is?" Sung to the tune of "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow". They love this game.

We have a new "game". We guess/estimate the number of items in a jar and then the helper gets to count the items. Today we had 8 cotton balls in the jar and the birthday boy guessed the exact number!

We talked about the letter "P" and they each made a plate full of "p's"........yes, this is meant to be confused with a plate full of "peas"! They thought this was a great trick!

We talked about circles, triangles, squares and rectangles. Then they used these various shapes to create a shape person. One little friend was not at all interested in doing this.......until I changed the directions and told him that his could be a shape MONSTER.......he was all over that! :)

The kiddos worked on their fine motor skills when they made necklaces from noodles that they had to string onto a length of yarn. This was much more difficult than it looks. After they got the hang of it they were good to go!

We read "The Three Little Pigs" and they loved it! An oldie but a goodie! They wanted me to read it twice. The second time through we ALL used our deepest "wolfy" voices when we threatened to huff and puff and blow the houses down. And of course we all used our best pig voices to say "not by the hair on our chinny-chin-chins"!!!
These kids LOVE to be read to and love to snuggle up close. I miss this with my own kids so reading to your kids on Wednesday mornings is a real treat for me! Olivia reads to me now.......sniff....sniff!

We did some exercising, played with the parachute, built a tunnel for the cars, played "doctor" with one doll and two teddy bears, played pizza delivery guy and beauty salon, and then, before we knew it, it was time to go home! See you next week!

Hi! I am still trying to figure out how to "blog" so bear with me please. I posted a blog just minutes ago but failed to add pictures. There is probably some way to go back and edit my post but.....you got it.....I can't figure out how! So I will just ad them now......better late than never! The pictures are the best part!
Finally, a Wednesday without a snowfall! The past two Wednesdays my preschool friends did not make it to my house due to school delays and cancellations. What a winter we have had....and there are two more months of winter ahead of us....ugh!

This Wednesday, February 13th, we talked about Valentine's Day of course and the letter "V". We did some string painting on large red hearts. This was not our only "messy" project. We also made bird feeders for our feathered friends. The kids spread peanut butter over bagels (and a great deal of it over their tongues), pressed the bagels into a pan of birdseed, and threaded a loop of yarn through the hole. Ta Da! Happy messy kids.....fat happy birds!

We read and sang Old MacDonald's Farm by Jessica Souhami. Ask your kiddo what "creature" was at his farm that said "beep, beep". We also read "If I Had a Hippo..." which is full of rhyming words. We came up with many of our own rhyming words and made-up words.

We played an alphabet game and a matching game but the most fun they all had was when we brought out the parachute! Ask them what we did with the parachute!

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you! See you next week......I hope!
